[Immediately FREE] Wholesome Weekend Date Movie (Dec. 30, 2016)

Linda Purl & Roger Kern
learn a NEW way to "celebrate" Christmas

I found a film that I haven't seen in years and just stumbled on it again today. So this is one of those instances where I will be watching the same movie at the same time as most of you. Right now.

Created by the people who brought us the TV show, "Little House on the Prairie" for all those years and based on a book by Laura Ingall's daughter, Rose, this is called, "Young Pioneers Christmas" and stars Roger Kern and Linda Purl (who was my favorite actress through all my 'kid-years').

As one YouTuber appropriately commented about this film,  "adversity builds character". It's a bit grittier than an average episode of "Little House on the Prairie" would have been and also has the honor of being the final "Wholesome Weekend Date Movie" of the year, 2016.

I'm hoping to come back tomorrow and make a couple blog posts for New Year's Eve, but for now, I want to thank all of you who visited me every week during these past months to discover which film I recommended. I always found it very humbling AND flattering simultaneously.

I hope you have a good and safe weekend as you celebrate and reflect and also that you come to visit me again in 2017. (I wonder what it holds for all and each of us.)

God bless you, my friends.

Love Always, Laura-Lee

[Immediately FREE] Wholesome Weekend Date Movie (Dec.23, 2016)

This will be short and sweet. Tonight I am recommending the BEST film version of the classic book "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens.
But this one is done by the Muppets and is aptly titled, "A Muppet Christmas Carol".  If you're not already in love, get ready to be. And I mean with this movie too. It has it all and it is not only my pleasure to recommend it to you but my honor as well.

I would have offered it much sooner but it's been very difficult to find a good quality upload of it. But I simply can't wait any longer. I'm sending you to the best version I could find. You might want to try and find a better one, but I would suggest you don't waste too much time doing that. It only takes a couple minutes for you to be swept away and into this story and won't notice anything else.

Then top off this romantic evening with "Merry Christmas Mr. Bean". This IS a night for good feelings and romance. LOVE is in the air, everywhere.

The ultimate LONG-TERM Love Affair

(I also hope you will come back tomorrow as well. I've got a few things I am still working on and I hope to come back online after I've finished them up)

Snuggle up my wonderful friends. "It feels like Christmas!"

"Wholesome" Movie: that CAN'T WAIT for WEEKEND

I have a feature at this blog when every Friday I recommend a great film specifically for those on their first date or are Christians and don't want graphic sex, violence, swearing called the "Wholesome Weekend Date Movie". Below is my entire list of "Laura-Lee's Requirements" that ALL the films I recommend must follow.

But before I started that I did just a regular film review of one of my all time favorite films called, "The Trap" with Oliver Reed and Rita Tushingham.

But, alas, (Yes. I say words like "alas" in real life), when I originally reviewed the film, the version on YouTube (although appreciated) was not very good and actually had several crucial minutes in the middle missing. ACK! (Yes. I say words like "ACK!" in real life too)

I have just discovered a BETTER version uploaded on YouTube. It is not only free and available immediately, but includes the part that was missing from the original YouTube upload.

Oliver Reed portrays a French Canadian trapper who "buys" himself a bride and takes her to his cabin in the beautiful Canadian wilderness. Since I happen to BE a French-Canadian, I knew he was getting his role right, but I didn't initially know just how huge the transformation from his usual self that his performance was.

But, as with all things YouTube, you never know when something will suddenly NOT BE THERE. So I didn't want to risk waiting for the weekend. I'm also cutting this blog post short (which goes against my "long-winded" nature) so you don't waste any more time.

Walk, run or crawl to your keyboard, mouse or touchpad but see this version of "The Trap" right NOW!

Consider this my "WEEKLY random act of kindness" and I'll see you again Friday for my usual "Wholesome Weekend Date Movie"  recommendation.

Sincerely, Laura-Lee

CAUTION: As usual, "Wholesome" does not mean for children. This film has some adult themes that might not be appropriate for younger or sensitive viewers.

[Immediately FREE] Wholesome Weekend Date Movie (Dec. 16, 2016)

For this week in mid-December, I want you to relax and be treated to the ultimate feel-good Christmas movie classic, "The Bells of St. Mary's".

While it does contain all the usual sentiments you'd expect from a 1945 Bing Crosby Christmas film, this one surpasses the others due to the wonderfully written story and realistic performance of Ingrid Bergman. By giving this film it's firm grounding she actually raises it to a higher level than the glut of similar but lesser Christmas movies.

Bing Crosby & Ingrid Bergman
declare a holiday

Bing's "Father O'Malley" comes to take over from the ailing former Pastor of the school but, unknown to the nuns, he is also there to evaluate whether St. Mary's should be closed or remain open. But while the Father is doing his evaluating, the sisters are fervently praying that the rich man who has built a massive and modern building next door will just suddenly give it to them to be their new St. Mary's School.

There are lots of clashes of words, wit, ideals, faith, and personality between Bing's easy-going Father O'Malley and Ingrid's practical Sister Superior that cause both tension and a good deal of humor. But it also leads to the ultimate confrontation between the two when the Sister Superior is re-assigned without a choice away from the school she loves so much at the recommendation of Father O'Malley who goes "over her head" to get it done.

Whatever happens, make sure you don't miss the final 5 minutes of the film. It's the big "payoff".

I could rave about this film much more but it's time for you to just go and watch it. I'll also be watching it (again) and hoping it enhances your date, your weekend and your Christmas. That's a tall order, but this film can deliver it.

Love, Laura-Lee

My Memories: The Alan Thicke Show

Before Alan Thicke was known to American audiences, he hosted a talk show here in Canada. One of my fondest memories was the day my brother and I went to watch one of his shows being taped at the studio in Vancouver (BC), Canada. (BCTV on Lougheed Highway)
Alan Thicke Show - Canada 1980's
Interviews John Ritter

I LOVED Alan but I was able to talk my brother into taking me because one of his guests was Kirstie Alley, "Star Trek: Wrath of Khan" had just come out and my brother was an ultimate "Trekkie".

I found out a LOT about how TV "stuff" was put together that day. (For example, they filmed not one but three shows with the same audience. One right after the other.)

I found out a LOT about how my brother was "put together" that day too.

What's also amazing about my memories of that day?
(Yes. This is a "flashback" within a "flashback".)

About one week ago I was praying and that entire day spent at the "Alan Thicke Show" came back to me in vivid and minute detail.
I remember specifically thinking, "Boy. My memories certainly are jumping all over the place."
I prayed for my brother but I didn't think to pray for Alan.

Because I've been a Christian for so long, people often ask me how I know when Jesus is talking to me. Well, apparently I don't hear Him a lot of the time. But I don't think it's necessarily or completely a bad thing for me to realize I'm nowhere near as "holy" as I think I am.

March 1, 1947 -
December 13, 2016

I'm sure Alan is okay now. I have prayed for him many times throughout the years and I'm sure other people (who did hear the Lord's prompting) helped pray him on his journey into the next world of God's kingdom.

As for me, I've been reminded that when Jesus communicates with his children He often comes from "left field". (In a way or place or time that is unexpected.) So I need to watch (listen) more closely for that.

Thanks to Alan, my brother, and the Lord for that wonderful day with wonderful memories and the "warm fuzzies" it brings freshly and fondly to me.

And to Jesus, the "King of kings and LORD of lords" who never changes, but makes sure that I constantly am.

[Immediately FREE] Wholesome Weekend Date Movie (Dec. 9, 2016)

I've wanted to recommend this week's film for a very long time but have had to wait in order to find an uploaded copy that is of a good enough quality so you can actually see and hear it well enough that it won't detract from your viewing experience. And this story is definitely worth ANY wait.

Sally Field discovers
 we really like her.
"Places in the Heart" won Sally Field yet another Academy Award. And rightly so. The story of a newly widowed woman who must find a way to earn a living during the Depression after her husband is shot and killed by a black man.

Enter Danny Glover's character. A down on his luck hobo who knows all about raising cotton. Together they form an unlikely alliance that eventually becomes an unlikely friendship.

I can't say enough good about this movie, so I'll "shut my trap" and just let you go and start watching it "immediately" and for "FREE". But I'll CAUTION you that there is a "love scene" (aka. adultery scene) which is semi-graphic because it depicts some "pillow talk". But I usually warn you anyway that "wholesome" does NOT mean there are not "adult" themes present. So I doubt you will find this  overly shocking or embarrassing.

Also, as usual, it is my hope that relaxing with a good film and with good company will be just the beginning of a good weekend.

Deeply and sincerely,
 Laura-Lee

Famous Quotes: Henry David Thoreau

"The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.
If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away."
  ~~ by Henry David Thoreau

P.S. I had this "different drummer" quote in my mind for some time, but I didn't learn who the author was and that he was a dedicated Abolitionist until I looked it up online. And I've also been watching the Ken Burns Civil War documentary. Merely another coincidence?

[Immediately FREE] Wholesome Weekend Date Movie (Dec. 2, 2016)

YouTube Recommended this Nicolas Cage (and Shirley MacLaine) film to me and since it's also one of my all time favorites AND it's a good quality upload, I'm going to pass it right on to you.

Nicolas Cage
bringing brunch & a rose bud

"Guarding Tess" is its name and the rest of it I will leave as a surprise. But I will tell you a couple things. Shirley MacLaine is mostly in "Chick Flicks" but in this case,  there isn't much weeping just lots of laughing and the MEN will love it too.

"I wish I had Nicolas Cage go shopping with me too!"
~ L-L

Also, I need to CAUTION  "sensitive viewers" that there is a handful of blasphemy in it. And surprisingly, it's mostly from the character who is portraying the President of the United States. (Art imitating life?)

And, as usual, my wishes for a good weekend to all. Thanks for stopping by again.

Sincerely, Laura-Lee

[Immediately FREE] Wholesome Weekend Date Movie (Nov. 26, 2016)

With the release of Mel Gibson's latest film, "Hacksaw Ridge", there is new attention being focused on another man who was also a reluctant war hero. Alvin York.

Gary Cooper

This film, simply titled, "Sergeant York" is a wonderfully crafted film that has it all, Starring the always loveable and quintessential  "everyman", Gary Cooper, it is the story of a recent convert to Christianity who is trying to determine whether or not it's okay to kill when he is drafted into the army.

Captivating, dramatic, tense, thrilling and often humorous, this is a film great in its simple telling of the life of an ordinary man who does the EXTRAordinary in the face of insurmountable odds.
You do NOT want to miss this one.

Have a good weekend, everyone.

Sincerely, Laura-Lee

[Immediately FREE] Wholesome Weekend Date Movie (Nov. 18, 2016)

This week it's a double feature in honor of American politics (sort of).
A "main attraction" and then the "B Movie" as it used to be called in the 'olden days'. These days we just refer to it as the "sequel". (Yes. I meant to be funny but "funny" rarely works for me).

"A hunting we will go ..."

Unless you're a hermit, you've probably heard of our first film. "National Treasure" which stars Nicolas Cage and Jon Voight surrounded by a wonderful supporting cast including Sean Bean and Harvey Keitel as well as relative newcomers, Justin Bartha and Diane Kruger.
I loved every moment of this film as it completely swept me away in its adventure.

Our second film is the sequel to "National Treasure" called, (aptly enough) "National Treasure: Book of Secrets" and, as well as the original cast returning, it can also boast that Helen Mirren and Ed Harris have jumped on board for this ride.
It's not quite as "tasty" as the first one, but it does a pretty good job of satisfying our "hunger" for adventure.

Together they make for quite a spectacular double bill as we follow Ben Gates and his merry band of friends and family around the globe as they follow the clues, unravel the puzzles, commit a few crimes, make friends and enemies and learn about life, love, and family. All while searching for treasure.

I would have featured these films sooner but finding uploads that are of a good enough quality that they don't distract you from the plot took some time. So let me also add that you haven't suddenly developed a bad case of dyslexia. The backward lettering in the films is just part of the upload.

"Being a History "Geek" ...

"... and a Bookworm ..."

"... becomes 'COOL' again"

Theses movies are a lovely blend of
historical fact and Hollywood fiction but I will leave it to you and your "date" to debate what percentage of each the films contain.

Diane Kruger & Nicolas Cage

As always, I wish you a wonderful weekend and hope you enjoy these films.

Sincerely, Laura-Lee
