[Immediately FREE] Wholesome Weekend Date Movie (Sept 30 2016)

For the first time in this weekly feature, I'm suggesting a Double  feature.

Warm Fuzzies and a Deer

Both of these films have been mentioned before on this blog, but they both have newer uploads at YouTube which are of GREAT quality. In HD and T E C H N I C O L O R. [insert fanfare here]

Warm Fuzzies and a Goat

I suppose I'm giving them the best recommendation I can. I've watched both these films many times, throughout many years. They are full of the best of everything. So after a long week of perhaps having to deal with difficult circumstances and difficult people bring on the "warm fuzzies" by viewing:

&

Even if it's for the second time around (or third or fourth or fifth etc)

[Immediately FREE] Wholesome Weekend Date Movie (Sept. 23, 2016)

"Have a candy"
"... and a good weekend"

I find it difficult to believe that I have kept up this weekly feature for so long that I've actually begun to forget which films I've previously recommended. It's also become much harder to locate films that meet all my "requirements" (listed below). But this week I bring your attention to an odd but wonderful film called,
"People Will Talk".

As I've stated before, something being "wholesome" does not mean it is suitable for the entire family to view. This one may have no graphic content but it begins with the predicament of an unwed mother (and other adult themes) so some caution is required for younger viewers.

Cary Grant & Jeanne Crain

And since it also centers around the life of a rather unusual doctor, portrayed by Cary Grant, I am reluctant to suggest it because of my current strong aversion to that particular profession.

But this film is so well-made, well-acted, has such wonderful and witty dialogue, several plot twists and a good deal of charm, humour, and mystery that I decided to put aside my dislike for the medical profession in order to recommend it to you.

Cary Grant gets (post-mortem) laughs
in movie "People Will Talk"

And I do so with the deep hope that someday that profession may redeem itself and return to at least some concern for the patients it is supposed to be helping.

Sincerely, Laura-Lee

[IMMEDIATELY FREE] Wholesome Weekend Date Movie (Sept 16, 2016)

The Labour Day long weekend is behind us, students are back into the routine of school days, we have lots of work to do to get ready for winter and this weekend it's time for ...

CHRISTMAS!

At least as far as my "Wholesome Weekend Date Movie" is concerned.
This week I'm going to do something odd (which is actually the 'norm' for me) and recommend to you a Christmas movie that was made for TV several years ago. It's simply called, "Silent Night" and the only actor in it that I've heard of is Linda Hamilton (from the "Terminator" films).

Hamilton gives a solid performance as a German mother who takes her pre-teen son to the secluded, family hunting cabin on Christmas Eve during the last days of World War 2 and the infamous Battle of the Bulge.
For those of you who don't know what the "Battle of the Bulge" is,  I'm not going to tell you because it will spoil at least one plot twist (and there are several in this often suspenseful film).

During a storm, a group of American soldiers AND a group of Nazis all find themselves lost and stumbling into the cabin for shelter. Through a series of events, this mother is able to hide their guns and carry out her demand that they call her cabin "neutral territory" for this one "holiest of nights" in exchange for her hospitality and help. What follows is a series of interesting events, plot twists and a Christmas none of the participants will ever forget in this story based on true events.

We Christians often say we celebrate Christmas all year round because we know the "true" meaning of Christmas ... Jesus.
At any rate, I found myself watching this interesting, charming, well-made and well-acted film once again during this past week. I got carried away by it and put in the "Christmas Spirit" and thought I might try to pass on some of those good feelings to you too.

And, as usual, I wish you all a wonderful weekend and a ...

      Sincerely, Laura-Lee

[IMMEDIATELY FREE] Wholesome Weekend Date Movie (Sept 9, 2016)

WARNING for Christians: This film contains some blasphemy in the form of "Oh my God".

However, I found it to be such a good film in all other respects that I have decided to recommend it anyway and let you use your own discernment on whether you still wish to watch it.

Jennifer Garner
as the 13-year old who is suddenly 30

This week's film is "13 Going on 30" and it's Fun and Funny, with capital "F"s (along with sweet, charming, well acted and well made). A "Good Time" in the form of a film. I deeply hope it will stick the silly grin on your face that I had on mine while watching it. And if you do decide to watch it, make sure to stay to the VERY end for the final  "de over " , ... uh, I mean, "plot twist".

Sincerely. Laura-Lee

The Pack of Cool Girls known as
"The 6 Chicks" cause Jr High School Havoc

P.S. That old Hollywood phrase "there's no such thing as small parts, just small actors" comes true in the performance of Sam Ball as the hockey-playing boyfriend. He has only a couple scenes and very few lines but he makes good use of that tiny bit of screen time. Unforgettable and hilarious! I've included his "raunchy striptease" in a YouTube LINK all by itself. (And BTW, this is as sexually explicit as this film gets)

[IMMEDIATELY FREE] Wholesome Weekend Date Movie (Sept 2, 2016)

Here's a quirky and interesting film I discovered years ago.

Cliff Robertson & Joan Crawford

No sooner does the sheltered, middle-aged [apparently sweet, innocent and naive] Joan Crawford marry the much younger Cliff Robertson then skeletons start coming out of his closet. Suddenly it's up to this new wife to figure out who is telling the truth, her new husband or his family that shows up unannounced on their doorstep.

Make no mistake though, even with it's several plot twists, "Autumn Leaves" is NOT meant to be an intense thriller. Maybe full of suspense, but in a fun, campy, odd, quirky and totally enjoyable way. (Just like "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane").

Whether viewing it alone or with your "special someone", I hope you will enjoy both this film and your last long weekend before we say "so long" to the summer and hello to autumn leaves.

NOTE: The beach scene in this film was shot almost 10 years before the classic film, "From Here to Eternity". So that film is the copycat, not this one.
