Cliff Robertson & Joan Crawford |
No sooner does the sheltered, middle-aged [apparently sweet, innocent and naive] Joan Crawford marry the much younger Cliff Robertson then skeletons start coming out of his closet. Suddenly it's up to this new wife to figure out who is telling the truth, her new husband or his family that shows up unannounced on their doorstep.
Make no mistake though, even with it's several plot twists, "Autumn Leaves" is NOT meant to be an intense thriller. Maybe full of suspense, but in a fun, campy, odd, quirky and totally enjoyable way. (Just like "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane").
Whether viewing it alone or with your "special someone", I hope you will enjoy both this film and your last long weekend before we say "so long" to the summer and hello to autumn leaves.
NOTE: The beach scene in this film was shot almost 10 years before the classic film, "From Here to Eternity". So that film is the copycat, not this one.
